Sabaragamuwa Province, located in the south-central region of Sri Lanka, is a land of natural beauty, rich culture, and traditional industries. It consists of two districts—Ratnapura and Kegalle. The province is best known for Ratnapura, the “City of Gems,” which has been a center of gem mining for centuries, producing some of the world’s finest sapphires and other precious stones.

The region is also home to lush rainforests, waterfalls, and part of the Sinharaja Forest Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich in biodiversity. Kegalle is known for its scenic landscapes and for the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, a popular attraction where visitors can observe and interact with rescued elephants.

Sabaragamuwa blends natural wonders with cultural heritage, making it a province of both economic importance and touristic appeal.
