Northern Province

Capital: Jaffna |

The Northern Province of Sri Lanka is a culturally rich and historically significant region located at the northern tip of the island. It comprises five districts: Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Mannar, and Vavuniya. The province is predominantly Tamil and has a deep-rooted heritage in Hindu culture, language, and traditions.

Jaffna, the provincial capital, is known for its ancient temples, colonial architecture, and vibrant local cuisine. The region also includes important religious and historical sites such as the Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil and the ruins of ancient kingdoms. Despite being heavily affected by the decades-long civil conflict, the Northern Province has been steadily rebuilding and reconnecting with the rest of the country.

With its scenic coastal areas, unique cultural identity, and growing potential for agriculture and tourism, the Northern Province represents resilience and renewal in modern Sri Lanka.
